**The Retired Podcaster** is for anyone who has reached retirement — or is getting close — and has wondered whether they could make a podcast of their own. I’m David, I’m 73, retired, and I’ve spent much of my working life around radio, broadcasting and microphones. These days, I still make podcasts simply because I enjoy making audio and telling stories. In the first few episodes, I’ll take you through the basics of getting started: finding something to talk about, becoming comfortable with your own voice, making your first recording, choosing equipment, editing and eventually publishing your first podcast. After that, we’ll simply talk about podcasting — microphones, storytelling, interviewing, ideas, mistakes, things I’ve learned and whatever else seems worth discussing. There’s nothing to buy and no complicated formula to follow. Just one retired podcaster talking to another about how enjoyable making a podcast can be. You’re never too old to press record.

Signal Score

What is Signal Score?

Signal Score ranks podcasts by meaningful discovery behavior, not by who is already biggest. It blends scout approvals, saves, shares, repeat engagement, and editorial review into one weighted score.

Ranking notes

  • High-intent actions count more than passive traffic.
  • Trusted scouts carry more weight than brand-new accounts.
  • Recency can matter for discovery, but it is not treated as a proxy for quality.
  • Per-user caps and distinct-actor rules limit gaming.

Signal Score is directional, not absolute. New shows can move quickly, established shows can cool off, and no score is paid placement.
